Okay! So this post is going up here AND on the C:AoR forums. It is for NORTH AMERICA ONLY! I have been in contact with several of you over the past few weeks, talking to you about the new Sentinel program. However, I realize that we have on these forums members of the Rackham community that - while not vocal - are influential in their FLGS and BIG supporters of Rackham games.
What Jean Bey is looking for is a group of volunteers who regularly go to their FLGS who are interested in promoting and demonstrating Rackham games, as well as acting as a communication channel between the store and the company. This goes for both C:AoR AND AT-43, though you do not have to play both to join. Mainly we are looking for people who are able to support both equally, even if that means learning a bit about the other game so you can promote it.
By promote I mean letting your FLGS know about:
- How Rackham products will now be MONTHLY releases, ON time, EVERY time.
- There is a new updated website coming!
- Let people know they can get responses on the forums, and to encourage customers and store owners to sign on and chat with us here!
- There will also be increased information on upcoming releases on the website this week!
As well as all the news coming from the forums, CHO, and to you as a Sentinel!
We also want people capable of demoing, and talking to new players about the games!
Now this IS volunteer work, and so Rackham understands that this is entirely your own time/affair, but we ask that only people who are going to make a good faith effort to help out apply. If you are still interested please PM to Jean Bey the following information:
Your name (First Last)
You town (not your full address), and State
The name of you FLGS (only tell me the ones you ACTUALLY go to)
What Rackham games you ALREADY play
What armies you have for those games
And your email address!
In the next few days, i will be sending out an email to all our potential Sentinels about the benefits of joining, and CC'ing Jean Bey on it. That way he can email everyone at once. PLEASE try to get back to me as soon as possible if you are interested in supporting Rackham in your area! Thank you!

This was a series of questions asked in the C:AoR forums. I felt the answers applied here too, for clarification:

A few questions.
Are you the head of the North American Sentinels Program now?
Is there a document that outlines this in more detail? |
Nope! I am doing this for Jean Bey. It's HIS company and HE has the final say. That said, we've been discussing this for several weeks, and he's approved what I've put out here. The final details will eb worked out when I know who' even interested!

What are the requirements? - looks like just talking to the LGS and being enthusiatic about Rackham products.
How many events a month must be run? - Is there at least a guideline to shoot for?
Voluntary meaning what? Neither party can hold the other accountable for support? ie....No support from Rackham for the program in terms of prizes or give aways at events/demos etc? No, Schwag for the sentinels? And conversely no guarantees for Rackham that the Sentinel is representing the hobby and games in the appropriate manner? |
Voluntary means this is on YOUR time. You don't have any obligation to stay, no one is going to run around behind you making sure you do X many demos per month. Jean isn't looking for employees, or he'd put out a want-ad. He wants volunteers. People who are interested - of their own volition - in helping out Rackham in their FLGS because they want more players to play against, and they want Rackham products to succeed.
that said, will there be perks to being a Sentinel? Of course! Those are at Jean's discretion though. It isn't an all access pass, and it won't be tons of new info that you can laud over other people on this forum. It will be another communication channel in addition to CHO. Putting together a weekly PDF isn't an impossible task, but as someone on TTGN pointed out, keeping up with 24 hour news and blogging IS. Sentinels will be getting previews, helping translate, helping test new rules, preview new books, and BRING THEM INTO YOUR FLGS. This is about RACKHAM, and getting people pumped about RACKHAM stuff!

What type of coverage area are you looking for?
1 sentinel per LGS or 1 per MSA. Being in a metro area myself I have 4 LGS stores w/ in 20 minutes of my house. |
Well, how many do you go to? Jean's not asking you to blow a tank of gas on this (he'd rather you picked up an attachment box for 30 bucks!). He wants the stores that you DO go to to be places people can visit and find someone knowledgable about Rackham products.
The best example of this that I can think of is this:
I went to my FLGS on Saturday. They carry C:AoR, old metal Confrontation, and AT-43. Some kid was sitting in the AT-43 section ogling the figures. I was looking for C:AoR stuff (A Griffin Riflemen box, actually). I saw the kid and said, "Hey do you play?" He said he didn't and so we got to chatting. I told him abou AT-43, how it worked, what to pick up to start (I recommended splitting the O box set with a friend since he was brand new to tabletop wargaming), told him the advantages to not having to paint all those figures, and be able to play them right out of the box... And then I took him over to the C:AoR section so I could find my riflemen and told him about C:AoR, and the differences between the two games, metal vs PPP, and told him to get on the forums and chat with us! I even wandered over to the register, got a slip of paper, and wrote down the web address of the forums for him.
I wasn't there to game (my wife was waiting for me), it took all of 10 minutes out of my life, and hopefully that kid will give it a whirl! That's part of being a Sentinel. Are you going to be in the store anyways? Gaming with friends? Take the time to explain what's happening when people walk by! Ask them if they'd like a demo after you're done your game! This isn't a second job. It's showing off something you love to do anyways. |

Sounds great for North America! I know that this is North America exclusive, but do you know If this view will be applied in Europe soon too? _________________ Le Dragon du Nord - Swedish painting and modelling blog

It sounds like I've been a sentinel and I didn't even know it. Whenever I can, I promote the game and rules to get a player base in my LGS. I'll PM you as soon as I get out of work. |

Thanks! Can't wait!
I realize this IS something many of you do already, please let me know! Isn't it about time you got rewarded for being yourself!
I've always thought I should be paid extra at work... But no one seems to want to reward my encyclopedic Star Wars knowledge. |

I am very happy about the time NON-Requirements.
I evangelize AT-43 pretty heavily in my area, and have gotten about 6 people into the game. BUT I have family, career, church, community, and other hobby commitments - I can't play AT-43 more than about once a month. ;(
I have helped with a gamer community bulletin board and have an AT-43 section where I talk up news and publicize my demos. (http://www.athensgamersunite.com/viewforum.php?f=1
I encourage everyone else to do the same. Being able to send people some kind of schedule of play (even if it is only monthly) is a huge help when recruiting players.
Tracy's posters a huge help too! |

Sentinel Lord, my friend! If any of you happen to be in Athens, GA this Saturday, stop by Classic City Comics and Games.

I am glad to hear the game will organize some promotion through its avid players; this is IMO the best way for any wargame to succeed (well, a big part of it anyway).
One question/suggestion: Is R going to make sure that conventions have coverage and organized demo events or tournaments? We all know about the big ones (Gencon and Origins) but what about others? I, for one, cannot dedicate much time to being a Sentinel but I do attend a couple of sizable cons each year and would be interested in running demos there. |

This is great news. The FLGS just relocated and the owner was looking to boost sales of what he calls the "non-core" games (IE Not GW).
I was quite disappointed to find that FFG was being dropped and league support was going away, but if things are getting started up again, count me in. |

I can't speak for R. but the good folks on this board will be happy to help you come up with demo scenarios for you to use and you can use Tracy "Sentinel Lord" Constantine's posters for advertisements. |
